Monday, Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism announced that after 6 months of inspections and 456 establishments visited, the 21 specially trained officers have quantified the establishments that can deserve the prestigious label Hibiscus, which replaces the traditional star. Only institutions in good standing with the tax were taken into account in the classification process. The program of classification of hotels, accommodation centers and restaurants, aims to identify the quality of services provided and to align them with international standards.

It appears from this important inspection work, that 3 establishments in Haiti get the Hibiscus 5 [highest quality], 1 establishment 4 Hibiscus and 47 others were given 3 Hibiscus. 342 did not meet for now the basic criteria for at least 1 Hibiscus.

"With this classification, classified hotels will benefit from the support of the Ministry of Tourism, in training for their staff, loan for hotels that want to modernize and significant advertising support from the Ministry."

The Minister took the opportunity to remind the hotels that have been inspected, they have until October 20, 2013 to present, eventually their grievances on this classification. After this date, this classification will be final and the names of the establishments will be published in the media. The hotels who have received the label Hibiscus, will get a plaque by the end of the year, to distinguish them from other unclassified establishments.
