Haiti - Politic : Positive results for the Prime Minister in New York

During his participation in the 68th Ordinary Session of the UN General Assembly, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe joined by members of the Haitian delegation, met in New York with several Heads of State and Government as well as representatives of some international institutions. He indicated having concluded 48 commitments for the benefit of Haiti, after 42 meetings from 22 to 26 September of this year.

Laurent Lamothe had set itself the following objectives: to make an inventory of the situation in Haiti since the earthquake of January 12, 2010, to highlight the renewed commitment of the Haitian State to the Millennium Development Goals and finally arriving to identify ways and means that must improve the various social programs implemented by the Government. The Prime Minister has not failed to point out during his many meetings, the expectations of the Martelly administration and the budgetary constraints the country faces.

Mr. Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank is committed with the Prime Minister, to finance projects of sustainable development, driven by the Haitian Government.

Mr. Enrique Garcia, President of the Development Bank of Latin America, who also met the Head of Government, has established a fund of solidarity with Haiti, in order to contribute to its reconstruction.

Concerned about the future of the energy sector, the Prime Minister confirmed that he spoke with several foreign investors among which four large electricity suppliers, were very interested to come and invest in Haiti.
