Haiti - Education : Towards an agreement between the school directors and the Ministry of Education

Thursday, after several days of claims and intervention in the local media, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-9525-haiti-education-500-principals-threaten-to-take-to-the-streets.html , a delegation of school directors of Grand-Goâve and Petit-Goâve, beneficiary of Universal Schooling Program Free and Compulsory (PSUGO) finally met with the Minister of Education, Vanneur Pierre, thanks to the efforts and support of the Deputy of Petit-Goâve, Jacques Stevenson Thimoléon to know the reasons for which more than 360 schools in the region, could not get the third installment of the subsidy.

It is a matter of "overpaid and irregularities" which is at the origin of the non-payment. Indeed, some school directors had submitted of lists of students per class higher, which does not reflect the reality and it is from these lists that the Ministry had paid them large sums of money (the first and second tranches of payment). These faulty Directors, are now in the category of "overpayments" explained the members of the delegation, on the airwaves of Radio Preference FM.

To solve these problems and allow the proper functioning of PSUGO in the region of the Palmes, a Commission of Directors schools of Grand-Goâve and Petit-Goâvewas created at the end of the meeting. It is composed of Luc Lefort Fontus, Michelet Laguerre, Labady Gilbert, Jean OJuste Louis and Fatal Maxo.

The Commission's mission is to meet the school directors who have not received the 3rd tranche of funds and collect their complaints and act as an intermediary between the Directors and the Ministry. A meeting is scheduled for next Sunday at the Lycée Faustin Soulouque with the Directors of private schools beneficiaries of PSUGO in order that a permanent solution is found and disadvantaged children of Grand-Goâve and Petit-Goâve, can receive the bread of instruction.
