Haiti - Elections : Special provisions for persons with disabilities

Emmanuel Ménard, President of the Transitional College Provisional Electoral Council (CTCEP), met Gérald Oriol, Jr., Secretary of State for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities (BSEIPH) to inform him of arrangements made to facilitate participation of people with disabilities in the next elections.

To this end, the CTCEP, with the support of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), will work to develop strategies to facilitate access for people with disabilities in age and willing to vote and that, in the entire electoral process, from the polling station to ballots.

According to the Secretary of State, this initiative is fair and in accordance with the law of 13 March 2012 Article 16 obliging the state to guarantee every citizen the right to vote "A disabled person is first and foremost a citizen . It is a right and a duty to vote for it," supported the Secretary of State, which considers that the inclusion of disability in the electoral process, as the results of the long struggle for the integration of people with special needs. Gérald Oriol, Jr. also called for the participation of persons with disabilities at all stages of the electoral process as planners, ordinary employees and voters.

Emmanuel Ménard took the opportunity to congratulate the Secretary of State for his leadership and dynamism at the head of BSEIPH and promised among other things, to contribute as best as possible, to the integration of disabled people in society.

Meanwhile, BSEIPH work in collaboration with the National Identification Office (ONI) to provide people with disabilities with their national identification card.
