The January 2010 earthquake highlighted our vulnerability and our limited ability to respond to major natural hazards and also brought to light the critical need of Haitian families to have access to decent and safe housing.

To resolve once and for all, the issue of housing and habitat, particularly from a structural framework, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe equips Haiti for the first time, of a National Housing and Habitat Policy (PNLH), developed by the Unit for Housing Construction and of Public Buildings (UCLBP) in collaboration with several national and international actors, is a tool that the Haitian government has taken to address the long-term deficit in housing in our country. "It will be the reference framework for both public institutions, local authorities, civil society, the technical and financial partners, in a word, of all actors in the housing sector and housing," Prime Minister says in the introduction to this document," noting that "This policy focuses on two of the four pillars of theStrategic Plan for Development of Haiti (PSDH), namely: social overhaul and territorial refoundations."
