Haiti - Agriculture : Jamaican agricultural businesses as models

Friday at the end of his 3-day visit to Jamaica, the President Michel Martelly, accompanied by members of the Haitian delegation and the Jamaican Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Roger Clarke, visited the production facilities of "Jamaica Broilers", in Spring Village and Government’s Agro Park in Amity Hall whose a part is used by the Caribbean Broilers to cultivate sorghum to replace imported animal feed.

President Martelly told the press that the two companies were worth being replicated in Haiti, including the plant of Spring Village with its 1,600 jobs, stressing that such facilities stimulate the local economy and reduce imports "I was very happy to see that, and the fact that Jamaica Broilers is investing in Haiti. The enterprise down there is much smaller, but we expect to grow bigger and allow more people to get jobs in Haiti," declared President Martelly, while stressing the effort that he will be making to establish agro park-type facilities in Haiti.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Agriculture of Jamaica stated that he and his Haitian counterpart, Jacques Thomas, have identified areas of cooperation between the two countries and stated his intention to share the Jamaican experience and work closely with the Minister Jacques, to ensure "that something concrete happens."
