Haiti - Denationalisation : According to the Dominican Republic, Haiti has broken the dialogue

Following the decision of CARICOM to suspend consideration of the request by the Dominican Republic for membership of the Caribbean Community, the Dominican government by the voice of the Minister of the Presidency, Gustavo Montalvo, declared yesterday that it will not participate in the meeting scheduled for Saturday in Venezuela with representatives of Haiti to discuss the situation following the decision of the Constitutional Court in the Dominican Republic, September 23, to withdraw citizenship to descendants of foreigners born in the Dominican Republic after 1929, on the basis that their parents were considered "in transit", ie do not have an official document of residence or legal identification (decision that affects approximately 210,000 children born in the Dominican Republic from Haitian parents, and approximately 34,000 children born to parents of other nationalities).

"We understand the Haitian government has broken the agreement we signed https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-9948-haiti-denationalisation-the-dialogue-only-way-for-reasonable-solution.html last week, in which the dialogue between the two countries was a priority to find solutions to all the issues of our common agenda and, therefore, we will not go to the meeting," declared Montalvo.

Haiti "has preferred to take another route and that ends our conversations right now," he added.

Venezuela has acted as a facilitator of meetings between the two countries after the controversy on the decision rendered at the end of September by the Constitutional Court.

The Caribbean Community (Caricom) announced Tuesday that negotiations for the incorporation of the Dominican Republic in this organization was suspended because of this judgment https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-9959-haiti-denationalisation-statement-of-the-caricom-on-the-dominican-decision.html
