The President Michel Martelly on his own behalf and on behalf of the Haitian people, welcomes the entry, this Thursday, December 12, 2013, of the Haitian writer Dany Laferrière at the French Academy "This new function of Mr. Dany Laferrière, further confirms the excellence and dedication of this son of Petit-Goâve. It is primarily an honor for Haitians who have always honored the knowledge and the opening of this great writer, then a proof of the act of writing on time and a pride for other writers of his generation and young writers," declared the Head of State.

For the Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, the Haitian writer entry in this venerable institution "reflects the importance and immensity of his work, of his international reputation and his contribution to the literature [...] The election of Dany Laferrière, in the first ballot by 13 votes on to 23, is a great honor for the country, the Haitian people and is a great day for the Haitian letters.

The Head of Government presents its warmest congratulations to Mr. Dany Laferrière and also took the opportunity to renew the commitment of his Government to continue to support, through the Ministry of Culture, any cultural initiative, artistic and literary to promote the image of Haiti."
