Traffic Disruptions : PNH/Gang Clashes

On Thursday morning, August 6, 2026, many motorists traveling from Carrefour were forced to turn back due to gunfire heard in the Port-au-Prince area, according to available information. Exchanges of gunfire reportedly took place between the Haitian National Police (PNH) and gangs operating in several neighborhoods in the capital's city center. Despite the tension, some people reportedly attempted to continue their journey on foot to reach their places of work.

Electricity : Production Decrease at E-Power

Électricité d'Haïti (EDH) states that the power outages observed for the past week in several neighborhoods of the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area are due to a nearly 50% decrease in electricity production from the E-Power plant. An E-Power representative explained that this production reduction was due to scheduled engine maintenance, planned since the beginning of the year and approved by EDH.

CCHC : New Board

On Thursday, August 6, 2026, the Haitian Chamber of Commerce in Canada (CCHC) announced the renewal of its Board of Directors following its Annual General Meeting.

CCHC Board Members :

Luckny Guerrier : President of the Chamber;

Sully Mompremier : Chartered Broker, Vice-President;

Andy Eustache, Esq. : Secretary;

Isabelle Souffrant, CPA : Treasurer;

Marie-Jennine Mayard, Esq. : completes the Executive Committee as a member.

The Board also includes : Carlo Hector, Jean Ernst Pierre, Esq., Régine Coicou, and Pierre-Paul Gazemar.

Towards a Haitian Sign Language

As part of the National Deafness and Sign Language Awareness Week, scheduled from September 1st to 28th, 2026, the Office of the Secretary of State for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities (BSEIPH) met with several partners and public institutions at its headquarters on Wednesday, August 5th, 2026. These included the Chief of Staff of the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, the Secretary of State for Literacy, representatives from the Ministry of Culture, representatives from the Commission for School Adaptation and Social Support (CASAS), representatives from the St. Luc Foundation, as well as representatives from several schools and institutes teaching sign language. The meeting focused on the codification and standardization of Haitian Sign Language (HSL).

Psychological Support for Displaced Persons

To strengthen psychosocial support for populations in displacement sites, the Ministry of Public Health, with the support of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), has deployed 14 psychologists and 11 social workers to 33 displacement sites in the West and Central (Belladère) departments. This intervention aims to provide psychological support to 5,500 beneficiaries over a five-month period starting in June, in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area and in the Central (Belladère) department. It also provides access to psychological first aid for 7,000 beneficiaries in affected communities in the metropolitan area and the municipalities of Belladère and Saint-Marc, through the intervention of previously trained Community Health Workers (CHWs).

Hurricane : Mid-season calm

With 15 days to go before the start of the 2026 season peak, no hurricane formation is expected in the North Atlantic basin for the next 7 days.
