Haiti - Humanitarian : Visit of Commander of the SOUTHCOM, General John Kelly

Wednesday, President Michel Martelly, has welcomed at Toussaint Louverture International Airport, Major General John F. Kelly, of the Southern Command of the Armed Forces of the United States (SOUTHCOM), on official visit to Haiti for 48 hours, at the invitation of the Head of State. Note that this is the fourth trip to Haiti in the 15 last month, for General Kelly, who has under his responsibility the 45 countries in the Western Hemisphere including Latin and Central America and the Caribbean.

Accompanied by the Head of State, General Kelly, went to Morne Cabris to visit the new housing projects of the zone extension north of Port-au-Prince, called Village Lumane Casimir.

In the presence of U.S. Ambassador Pamela White, Reginald Delva, the new Minister of the Interior, of responsible for Project 16/6, Clement Belizaire and Patrick Rouzier, President Martelly met first beneficiaries of the Project, a presentation of the various phases of work and visited some buildings. With the inhabitants of the Village, the President discussed issues of drinking water, safety, environment and transport.

The Head of State and General John F. Kelly, then went in Les Cayes, where they visited some infrastructure work done by the current administration with the support of Government and the American people.

During this tour they also visited the National School Fundamental of Fonfrède, the the Departmental Emergency Operations Center (COUD) of Les Cayes and did a brief stint on the construction site of the hospital of the Office of Workers' Compensation Insurance (OFATMA), Illness and Maternity

"We came here to see the progress and see all what we need to do to prepare for the future," said Ambassador Pamela White. General Kelly noted the considerable progress made in various fields and applauds the efforts of President Martelly to improve the living conditions of the Haitian people.

For his part, the Head of State praised the dynamism of employees of COUD of Les Cayes and encouraged them to redouble their efforts to provide more and better services to the community.

In addition, the delegation before going to Île-à-Vache, visited the plant of Vetiver of Les Cayes (factory Frager), where it was welcomed by the businessman, Pierre Léger.
