Haiti - Humanitarian : Brazil reiterates its support in the food security plans

Monday, Luiz Alberto Figueiredo, Brazilian Foreign Minister received his Haitian counterpart, Duly Brutus, to whom he reiterated the commitment of his country in the food security plans in development in Haiti.

Following this meeting, the Foreign Ministers made no statement to journalists, but Brazilian sources, usually well informed, tell us that the two men insisted on the social plans with "quick impact" as those to ensure food security in Haiti.

In particular, the Chancellor Figueiredo, would have reiterated the commitment of his country to "Let Agogo ', a network, consisting of twenty small-scale milk processing in Haiti, which supplies the market and helps distribute milk to nearly 30,000 children under the School Canteen Program, which promotes family farming. This plan is developed jointly by the governments of Haiti and Brazil, with the support of the World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

It would also have explained the Chancellor Brutus, measures that Brazil has taken to try to bring order in the arrival of Haitian immigrants in the country, which mostly illegally enter through the Amazonian frontier, attracted by smuggling networks.

The Minister Figueiredo would have also expressed his decision to host Haitian immigrants, and said it had launched a campaign to its Embassy in Port-au-Prince and in other countries for processing visas. Recall that according to the Brazilian official data, between 2012 and March 2014, nearly 8,100 Haitians have obtained visas for permanent residence in Brazil.

Both Chancellors have also reviewed the results of the UN Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (Minustah), whose military command was given to Brazil, the latter maintains a staff of 1,433 military and 18 police officers in Haiti.
