Haiti - Elections : The Parti Quebecois calls for a judicial recount

Two days after the publication of election results in Haiti, the Parti Québécois is concerned about the situation of violence and popular protests that prevails in the country.

"This election is extremely important for the Haitian people that must be able to recognize itself in its chosen ones but also for the international community who must be able to rely on legitimate interlocutors", said Louise Beaudoin, the deputy for Rosemont and spokeswoman of the official opposition for the international relations.

"66% of the Haitian state budget comes from the international community. If the country had to cross a political crisis, the main losers would be the Haitians themselves, because the international community may reconsider its commitments", said Benoit Charette, deputy for Deux-Montagnes and spokesman of the official opposition for the immigration.

"This is why, following the example of many international organizations, we wish the behavior of a judicial recount in the presence of international observers, because the results released Wednesday challenge the findings made by other international observers accredited and those of the Centre National d'Observation (CNO). It also requires that we examine the possibility of resuming the vote in many places where he could not proceed normally because of early closures, violence, intimidation, theft and ballot stuffing", said the deputy Louise Beaudoin.

The Haitian electoral law provides a contestations process and we hope that candidates can use it with confidence and transparency. This process must be lived peacefully in the interest of the entire country.
