Haiti - FLASH : A convoy of 500 vehicles arrives from DR

In response to Haiti's aid request https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18882-haiti-flash-visit-of-danilo-medina-in-haiti.html and following a high-level meeting Monday in the Dominican Republic https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18892-haiti-humanitarian-the-dominican-republic-will-help-haiti.html , on decision of President Danilo Medina, a convoy of 500 vehicles containing different types of aid will cross the border towards Haiti this Wednesday morning from 10:00.

Also, 40 heavy equipment such as cranes, trucks, fuel logistics equipment, ambulances, mobile workshops, mobile generators, water treatment equipment will be sent to Haiti.

Of the 500 vehicles, 248 vehicles will remain in Haiti, others return to the Dominican Republic after unloading their goods. Over 250 Dominican technicians will travel to Haitian communities affected by the passage of Matthew

The Haitian authorities have committed to ensure the safety of the convoy across the border and during their path, on arrival and to the return to Dominican territory and the security of Dominican staff in the camps to be established in Port-au-Prince and in various locations.

Tuesday, the Director of the Dominican Economic Restaurants, Nicolas Calderon, announced that will be delivered over 25,000 food rations to the Haitian government, more in Pedernales, will be produced 70,000 food rations, which will be transported by ship to remote areas in the part South of Haiti. Another front will be established to provide food in the camps where stationed the Haitian and Dominican staff who will receive daily breakfast, lunch and evening dinner so they can perform in good condition their work.

Note that a Dominican delegation, led by Gonzalo Castillo, Minister of Public Works and Communications (MOPCRD) arrived yesterday Tuesday in Haiti to coordinate the delivery of aid ordered by President Danilo Medina.

The Ministry of Public Works Dominicans said the Minister Castillo met with the Haitian authorities and that as of Wednesday, technicians of MOPCRD and those of the "Corporación Dominicana de Empresas Eléctricas Estatales" (CDEEE) will start the grid and road evaluation. He said that next Saturday will begin the reconstruction of the road infrastructure and electrification in the southern part of Haiti.
