Haiti - DR : The Haitian Diaspora makes 100 doctors and nurses available to the island

Several organizations of the Haitian diaspora have made available to Haiti and the Dominican Republic a brigade of 100 doctors and nurses (Haitian and Dominican) speaking Creole and Spanish, as part of a set of 10 proposals to contribute to the fighting the spread of Covid-19.

This initiative was formulated by the "Zilé" Foundation; the Coalition for Emergencies of Churches in the Haitian Community; the Socio-cultural Movement of Haitian Workers (Mosctha); Save Haiti (Napsa) and its Center for Sustainable Development (Cedeso).

These organizations state that the objective is to make a contribution to the two nations of the island and to encourage a binational dialogue which will eventually lead to cooperation to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition, they suggest incorporating into the Dominican government's aid programs the former cane cutters of the State Sugar Council (CEA) and other sugar factories, as well as all Haitian migrants who have a card of the Directorate General of Migration proving their legal migration situation on Dominican territory.

They also stressed that in a second step and with the help of the relevant international organizations of the United Nations system and the European Union, the implementation of a humanitarian aid program for Haitians in a regular migration situation all over Dominican territory.
