Haiti - NOTICE : National competition open to Haitian photo-journalists

As a prelude to International Press Day (May 3, 2021) a competition is launched, open to photo-journalists and photo-reporters working in Haiti. This initiative is part of a project to promote the work of the press organized by the French communication agency Wellcom and supported by the European Union as part of its Human Rights programs, with the support of the Haitian photojournalist association K2D Kolektif 2 Dimansyon.

The competition is open to any professional photographer who can attest to at least 2 years of proven experience. Candidates can propose their work according to several themes.

Under the main theme of Human Rights, submissions must fall under one of the following three themes:

Theme 1 : Company snapshot :

An image which encapsulates a social reality, illustrates events and people who document facts of societies in various fields (eg: work, education, health, family, etc…).

Theme 2 : Perspective of wom(an/en) :

A photograph that documents and translates a vision, a point of view, and / or an achievement carried by one or more women, in front of or behind the lens.

Theme 3 : Portraits of the news (or news from life) :

A portrait that should arouse emotion and tell a complex story linked to current events. Photographs that capture the image of a person or a small group of people and in which face and expression are predominant and document a hot topic or its consequences.

Candidates can compete with a photo in several themes. Photographs must have been taken between October 1, 2020 and April 15, 2021.

Prize winners :

  • 1st prize: 1,500 USD for the best photo of the competition (all themes

    combined)

  • 2nd prize: 1 contract for 1 report on Human Rights within the framework of

    international days worth 700 USD

  • 3rd Prize: Voucher valued at $ 400 from PC-EXPRESS.

  • Price of the public: 1 photo printed on PVC support, dimensions 24x36 inches.

Competition calendar:

  • Competition start date: April 1, 2021

  • Closing date: April 15, 2021 inclusive

  • Jury vote: April 20 to 25, 2021

  • Public vote: April 26-30, 2021

  • Announcement of results: May 3, 2021
