Haiti - FLASH : Violent armed clashes, burned houses, of wounded and dead in Bel-Air

During Thursday, the Bel-Air neighborhood was the target of a clash between heavily armed men of the Gang led by ex-policeman Jimmy Cerisier aka "Barbecue" and armed men from the Bel Air neighborhood.

The sometimes intense exchanges of automatic weapons fire, according to various testimonies, would have caused several dead and wounded in the two camps without sparing the civilians collateral victims. Several dozen houses were also set on fire.

"Barbecue" the leader of the G9 Gang coalition explained on WhatsApp that it was reprisals to avenge the death of 6 of his men killed by assailants from Bel-Air affirming "We responded appropriately to their attack [...]"

However, Pierre Espérance, Executive Director of the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights does not believe in these explanations, he rather considers that the real reason is a territory war "Barbecue" wanting to take control of the Bel Air neighborhood, a area not far from Delmas 6, the territory of Jimmy Cerisier.

For its part, the Haitian National Police (PNH), invisible on the ground, has so far published no report of this deadly violence.
