Haiti - Environment : BRANA and ECS unite to fight against the scourge of plastic bottles

Tackling the problem of plastic pollution in Haiti requires an eco-responsible approach and joint efforts through strategic partnerships.

Aware of the need to act quickly and well in the face of this scourge, the Brasserie Nationale d'Haïti (BRANA SA) as part of Heineken's environmental protection policy, informs that a partnership was signed on the June 24, 2021 with "Environmental Cleaning Solutions SA" (ECS SA) in order to shape a future in Haiti without waste in plastic bottles. A great first that aligns with environmental protection and job creation in communities.

With the objective of significantly reducing the impact of plastic waste on the environment, BRANA has defined a strategy for its used plastic bottles, moving from a linear "produce, consume and dispose" scheme to a circular model : "produce, consume, reuse and recycle."

"Recycling is an integral part of BRANA's governance and sustainability structure. We also believe in promoting a safer and healthier environment for our communities and for Haiti as a whole," said Stephan Dejoie, Manager of Corporate Affairs at BRANA adding "This program will not only help create more local jobs, but will materially contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment. We are entering into this strategic partnership to make a difference and help position recycling as a way of life in Haiti."

In the coming years, BRANA will support ECS to ensure that the company's plastic bottles are collected, develop communication and awareness campaigns to encourage awareness and participation in the collection of bottles for recycling.

The two institutions will also measure the socio-economic impact of plastic bottles collected from the Haitian community population.
