Since Sunday the HydroMeteorological Unit of Haiti and the Permanent Secretariat for Risk and Disaster Management have decided to place Haiti on yellow alert because of the advance of the tropical depression "Grace" which should pass over Haiti in the next few hours until Tuesday night.

This Monday at 5:00 am, the center of tropical depression "Grace" was located near 17.4 degrees North latitude and 70.2 degrees West longitude.

The depression is moving west at nearly 24 km/h.

Maximum sustained winds are near 55 km/h with higher gusts. Slow strengthening is expected to start by Tuesday.

In terms of the wind, tropical storm conditions are possible in the Dominican Republic and Haiti on Monday August 16 until tonight.

The tropical depression "Grace" is expected to produce between 75 and 100 mm of rain in places in the plains and up to 150 millimeters on the heights, particularly on the southern peninsula of Haiti up to Tuesday, which could seriously hamper the work of rescuers.

This heavy rainfall can lead to sudden and urban flooding and possible mudslides.
