Haiti - DR : 1,055 Haitians arrested in 3 days

Members of the Dominican army, accompanied by immigration inspectors, arrested 560 Haitians who entered the Dominican Republic illegally over the past weekend. A number that adds to the 495 other Haitians arrested previously in 24 hours for a total of 1,055 Haitians in 3 days.

Terror fueled by gangs in Haiti, socio-political instability, economic crisis and food insecurity are driving many Haitians to enter Dominican territory illegally in search of a better life.

Haitians in an irregular situation have been arrested during migration control operations, among others in Dajabón, Montecristi, Valverde, Santiago Rodríguez, San Pedro and La Romana, as well as in border municipalities such as Restauración and Loma de Cabrera...

All Haitians were taken by bus and in army vehicles to the headquarters of the Benito Monción fortresses of Mao, Beller and Dajabón where, after being verified by the migration services, they were repatriated to Haiti.

On the instruction of the Commander of the Dominican Army, Major General Julio Ernesto Florián Pérez, following the orders of the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant-General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa, surveillance operations and migration controls of foreigners have intensified in the Dominican Republic.
