Haiti - FLASH : Terrible accident in Meyer 6 dead and 72 injured

On the night of Saturday April 16 to Sunday April 17, 2022 between 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. a truck overloaded with passengers returning from Breman, carrying musicians and fans of the Rara "inonsan" overturned in Jacmel near Meyer (South East Dept.).

According to the Secretary General of the South-East delegation, the speeding driver would have tried to avoid a band of Rara on the road and lost control of his vehicle.

The partial assessment is heavy, 6 people lost their lives, including 4 at the scene of the accident, and 72 others were injured, including around 20 seriously (crossed sources STOP accident, Departmental Delegation of the South, and Medical Director of the hospital Saint-Michel of Jacmel).

The injured were transported to Saint-Michel hospital in Jacmel. Most of the other injured suffered multiple fractures

Reacting to this tragedy, Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry wrote on social networks "I am deeply saddened after learning the news of the accident, in Meyer, commune of Jacmel, which caused several victims, including deaths and injuries. I offer my condolences to the families of the victims of this new tragedy, while renewing them my full support."
