Haiti - FLASH : Illegal Haitians attack Dominican immigration staff

Tuesday inspectors from the Directorate General of Migration (DGM) on a migration control mission of Haitians reported to Ciudad Juan Bosch (Santo Domingo), with little military and police protection because they did not expect resistance from the illegal Haitians in this sector, had to turn back under the throwing of stones, bottles and under the threat of Haitians armed with machetes and other sharp objects in order to avoid a tragedy...

Enrique García the Director General of Immigration, Enrique García, warned that his Agency will not tolerate that illegal Haitians continue to confront the authorities with violence to sow disorder, as happened quoted Juan Bosch.

Garcia, recalled that this is not the first time that Haitians in an irregular migratory situation have violently confronted DGM units working in control and repatriation operations, stressing that there had already been cases of violence serious involving members of the migration staff injured with knives, stones and sticks during raids to arrest illegal Haitians.

He stressed that the DGM will take measures and that the staff will return to Ciudad Juan Bosch, in the coming days "We will go with the protection and security necessary to carry out the work established by law [...] we will not back down not and we will not tolerate in any way that these people in an illegal situation in the country, lack respect for the migratory authorities," recalling that the aggressors will have to assume their acts before the justice and that they will be punished by law.

48 hours after this incident, the migration control units, with the support of the army and members of the special anti-riot unit of the Dominican National Police (PND), proceeded Thursday, May 19, 2022, from 6:00 a.m. to checks and despite several vain attempts to escape checks, 385 Haitians, men and women were arrested and taken to the detention center of the DGM in Haina, for verification and repatriation to Haiti.
