Haiti - Contraband : Gas stations of Pedernales supply the black market in Haiti

In Perdernales, (southwest of the Dominican Republic) tension is rising between the Dominicans and the Haitians of Anse-à-Pitre.

In cause, the shortage of fuel in Haiti, which pushes the Haitians to come to stock up massively at the 2 service stations of Pedernales which have no police or military surveillance.

The fishermen of Pedernales deplore this situation, pointing out that part of their boats and other equipment are at a standstill, for lack of fuel because the service stations sell fuel in priority to Haitians at higher prices, who supply them then the black market in Haiti...

Motorcycle taxis believe that the lack of authority [HL : or corrupt authorities] is at the root of this situation in the service stations to the point of provoking violence between the citizens of Pedernales and Anse-à-Pitre who usually live in good neighborhood...

Recently, the two service stations of Pedernales found themselves out of fuel, because Haitians fill barrels that they transport on pickups and also jerry cans and other containers that they transport by sea in boats.

It is to be feared that without the intervention of the Dominican army, the already tense situation will degenerate and turn tragic at the risk of causing many victims...
