Under the direction of Minister of the Environment James Cadet, the Departmental Directorate of Nippes Environment (DDNE) has launched the works to revitalize and revive the production of forest and fruit seedlings at the Germoplasm Center** of the Department of Nippes https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21931-haiti-agriculture-laying-the-foundation-stone-of-the-plant-propagation-center.html . Indeed, these activities are in line with the Program for the collection of native and endemic seeds of the island of Haiti. Undertaken by the Directorate of Forests and Renewable Energies in concert with the departmental directorates of the Ministry, this program aims to contribute to the restoration of the various degraded watersheds of the country.

For this first phase, more than 50,000 seedlings are being prepared at this Germplasm Center, explained Agronomist Brutus Maguet, Departmental Environment Director of Nippes. Priority is given to fruit trees and some forest species native and endemic to Haiti.

**Germoplasm : A Forest and Fruit Germoplasm Center is a technical infrastructure for the multiplication or propagation of superior varieties of forest and fruit species intended to respond intensively to the demand for production and planting of trees, regular supply of wood and edible fruits.
