PNH fat days of Jacmel :

Security devices have been put in place by the Departmental Directorate of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) in the South-East, as part of the organization of the three fat days of Carnival in Jacmel which take place from Sunday 19 to Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

On Sunday, police were deployed on the carnival route, Avenue Barranquilla as in strategic axes of the city of Jacmel in order to guarantee the safety of carnival-goers.

At the same time, police patrols from the Departmental Unit for Maintaining Order (UDMO) on board vehicles crisscross other areas from the entrance to Jacmel, also carrying out searches of people in order to counter all acts of malicious individual.

Sunday, the first bold day, no incent reported with few artistic activities on the Baranquilla where only four dance troupes (ACAD, Cerf-Volant, PromoStar and Grand Lakou) made the animation. Although the revelers were numerous, most of the important carnival groups shunned the parade on Sunday for a question of subsidy.

For Marky Kessa, the Mayor of Jacmel, Shrove Sundays have never been strong, but he promises that there will be many more shows on Monday and Tuesday.

PNH Fat Days carnival in Port-au-Prince :

While operations continue across the country to dismantle and track down armed gangs, the PNH is also actively involved in the carnival festivities that began Sunday afternoon.

Indeed, to ensure the safety of revelers in the streets of Port-au-Prince, the Divisional Commissioner Jean Michelet Shoute, Director of Traffic and Road Police, mobilized their staff for these three Fat Days.

A route without a stand, a shorter route due to insecurity, the Capital experienced its first fat day with fewer walking bands and orchestras than in past years

If during the parade on Sunday morning, the public was few, during the parade of musical floats, the revelers had come by the thousands to participates, the powerful desire to have fun had made disappear, the time of the party the fear of insecurity at the Champ de Mars.

No major incidents were reported.
