Haiti - UNICEF : Donation of 30 motorcycles to the Educational Community Police (EduPol)

On Wednesday April 12, 2023, the United Nations Organization UNICEF-Haiti during a ceremony, handed over a fleet of 30 motorcycles to the Educational Community Police (EduPol) in the presence of Nesmy Manigat, Minister of National Education, by Me Paul Eronce Vilard Chief of Staff to the Acting Minister of Justice and Public Security, of Bruno Maes Representative of Unicef in Haiti, of Inspector General Alain Auguste, Central Director of the Administrative Police and his assistant, Divisional Commissioner Ernst Dorfeuille.

The Minister Manigat thanked UNICEF for the supply of this rolling equipment to this unit of the National Police of Haiti, which badly needs to deploy in other municipalities of the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince (Carrefour, Croix-des-Bouquets), and in other departments (North and Artibonite) where children are demanding the support of local police, emphasizing "The 4 million Haitian students need a calm climate to learning is effective. The 200,000 teachers need a serene climate to exercise their profession with dignity and with the necessary motivation [...]"

Me Paul Eronce Vilard, Chief of Staff on behalf of the Minister of Justice, praised the work of the agents of Edupol, which is to fight primary type juvenile delinquency "You have a responsibility towards the children, towards the parents, towards the Nation. The students are our children; they must be protected in any case with regard to the laws of the Republic and the international conventions signed and ratified by Haiti," recalled Mr. Paul Eronce Villard.

"UNICEF believes in the work of Community Educational Police officers," declared Bruno Maes, stressing "education is a pillar of stability in Haiti. When it is interrupted, social and economic life seems to stop," referring to the plight of children who, in several areas in the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince and in the Artibonite, suffer because the violence has invited into their daily lives, or because their schools have been the target of armed groups, stating in conclusion "Equipping Edupol agents to enable them to secure schools means helping children grow up in a protective environment and continuing their safe schooling."
