Haiti - FLASH : Intensification of armed attacks, several hundred dead (Report)

Since the beginning of 2023, raids, armed attacks and massacres against the Haitian population have intensified in the country, particularly in the departments of West and Artibonite, causing, among other things, the assassination of several hundreds of people and the gang rape of dozens of women and girls.

Pernier, Marlique, Diègue, Meyotte, Cargo, Tunnel, Thomassin, Laboule, in the commune of Pétion-ville; Bérette, Calebasse, Fort-Jacques, in the commune of Kenscoff; Salomon Market, Cité Soleil, Bel-Air, Caradeux, Solino, Delmas, in the communes of Port-au-Prince and Delmas; Source Matelas, in the commune of Cabaret, Onaville, in the commune of Croix-des-Bouquets, as well as the communes of Liancourt, Verrettes, Petite Rivière de l'Artibonite and Montrouis: armed bandits prove if necessary, that they operate where they want and take control of all the areas that interest them.

Summary of attacks:

Bel Air:

Between February 28 and March 5, 2023, Bel-Air was the scene of violent armed clashes: 148 people were murdered or went missing, at least 62 houses were burned down and 26 others were looted and/or burned down. At least 2 women were victims of gang rapes.

Cargo and Tunnel:

On the night of March 19 to 20, 2023, heavily armed men led by gang leader Vitelhomme Innocent carried out an armed attack on the localities of Cargo and Tunnel.

At least 9 people were killed.

Bérette, Calabash, Fort-Jacques:

On March 31, 2023, armed bandits from the Kraze Baryè base led by Vitelhomme Innocent attacked the localities of Bérette, Calebasse and Fort-Jacques, set fire to houses and vehicles and executed several members of the population.

Onaville:

On April 6, 2023, armed bandits from Canaan launched an offensive against the residents of Onaville, murdering members of the population, looting and burning houses elsewhere.

Cité Soleil:

From April 14 to 19, 2023, armed clashes in several neighborhoods of Cité Soleil resulted in the assassination of at least 70 people and around forty others injured by bullets or stabbing.

Source Matelas :

On the night of November 29-30, 2022, 72 people were murdered, 29 women and girls were gang-raped, and hundreds of homes were burned down. The balance sheet (low estimate) since April 19, 2023 at Source Matelas, reports at least a hundred people murdered

Debussy and Solino:

Since the night of April 23 to 24, 2023, the localities of Debussy, at the top of Turgeau and Solino, Delmas 24 area have been under bullets. The results of these events are not yet known, the RNDDH can affirm that the aforementioned abuses cause panic in these two (2) areas, causing several people to flee their homes, carrying only a few personal effects.
