Haiti - Market 2000 : 153 businesses gone up in smoke, more than 800 merchants directly affected

Saturday June 17, 2023, Ricardin Saint-Jean the Minister of Trade and Industry, went to the site of the 2000 market in Delmas 29, ravaged by a fire on June 12, 2023 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-39762-haiti-flash-the-2000-market-located-in-delmas-29-destroyed-in-a-fire.html in order to see the significant damage caused by this violent disaster.

153 businesses went up in smoke and more than 800 merchants were directly affected by this tragedy, not counting those who come to store their goods to pick them up the next day.

This visit also aimed to find a consensus between the State and the merchants in order to establish the best mechanism to support the disaster-stricken merchants.

Given the situation, the Government via the Ministry of Commerce wants to provide a lasting solution to this scourge of market destruction in Haiti.

Urging merchants to be careful, Minister Saint-Jean calls on victims to show courage in these difficult times, affirming "The Government will make every effort to support you in a record time, following a mutual mechanism being finalized."
