Haiti - Environment : Haiti in Uzbekistan makes its contribution in the fight against desertification

The Ministry of the Environment (MoE) recently participated in Samarkand in Uzbekistan (Central Asia), in the 21st session of the Committee responsible for reviewing the implementation of the Convention (CRIC 21) of the United Nations Convention on the fight against desertification (CNULD).

It was Agronomist Eder Audte, Director of Forests and Renewable Energy at the Ministry of the Environment who represented the Ministry and Haiti at this event.

Haiti's participation helped advance work on issues related to desertification, land degradation, drought, sand and dust storms, land tenure and gender equality, as well as than to promote increased complementarity between the Rio Conventions.

Thus, Eder Audte, alongside the countries of the Group of Latin American and Caribbean States (GRULAC), reiterated Haiti's commitment to the implementation of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification and of achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly with regard to target 15.3 to achieve a land degradation neutral world as an accelerator of the Sustainable Development Goals. He stressed that to achieve this, “it is a priority to have substantial, additional and predictable financial resources, technology transfer, capacity building and scientific cooperation, to support the implementation of the Convention in the region."

It should be noted that the CRIC was established in 2001 as a subsidiary body of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UNCCD. Its objective is to help the COP to regularly review the implementation of the Convention.
