Haiti - FLASH : E. Leblanc Fils, President of the Transitional Council will finally go to New York

Le's recall that Edgard Leblanc Fils, rotating President of the Transitional Council, who was to leave the country on Saturday, September 21 for New York to participate in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, was unable to travel, the American State Department having officially warned Haiti on September 20, 2024 that Edgard Leblanc Fils, will not benefit from VIP protection if he comes to the United States.

"As soon as we were informed of the situation, we contacted President Leblanc and began steps to understand what happened. I can assure you that from now on, the problem is resolved. There is a very strong possibility that he will be able to come very soon to fulfill his role as Head of Delegation and speak before the Assembly [on September 26]" declared Prime Minister Conille, who recalled that there was never any question of him leading the Haitian delegation. "The press note from the Prime Minister's Office was clear. "Edgard Leblanc is leading the delegation" and I was to accompany the delegation.

A note from the American Embassy in Port-au-Prince, published on the evening of Sunday, September 22, confirms "The United States will show the greatest courtesy to the President of the Transitional Presidential Council, Edgard Leblanc Fils, on the occasion of his trip to New York for the United Nations General Assembly. President Leblanc will benefit from full protection, as is the case for all Heads of State. The American Government takes the security of foreign dignitaries in the United States very seriously and regrets the delays in approving Mr. Leblanc's security arrangements due to the complexity of our internal procedures."

For his part, Edgard Leblanc Fils says he is waiting for an official confirmation letter from the United States confirming his security before leaving for the USA.
