Haiti - Elections : High-level meeting with the CEP

On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, in Pétion-ville, Laurent Saint Cyr, President pro tempore of the Transitional Council (CPT), accompanied by Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, and Frinel Joseph, CPT observer member responsible for electoral affairs, took part in an important working meeting with members of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) to learn about the progress of preparations for the referendum and upcoming elections, as well as the logistical and financial challenges they face.

During this meeting, Councilor J. JOSEPH emphasized from the outset the essential role of the CEP, as an independent institution, in the success of the transition.

For his part, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé reaffirmed the Government's commitment to addressing, swiftly and urgently, the challenges facing the CEP, which fall under its responsibility.

President Saint-Cyr reaffirmed, with the support of the Head of Government, the State's full commitment to mobilizing all necessary resources to :

• Strengthen the fight against insecurity and protect the population;

• Strengthen trust between institutions and citizens;

• Ensure the implementation of an inclusive, impartial electoral process that respects democratic standards;

• Increase the CEP's budget to guarantee the efficiency, transparency, and credibility of the electoral process.

"The organization of elections is the exclusive responsibility of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP). The Executive has no intention of interfering in its prerogatives. Its mission is to ensure a conducive security and institutional environment so that the Haitian people can freely and independently choose their leaders," President Saint-Cyr reiterated.
