The Minister presented the key themes discussed at this regional meeting and emphasized the importance of strengthening the role of women in public policy, governance, and the promotion of human rights.

In her speech, Ms. Saint Jean outlined the six main pillars that structure the national gender equality policy :

• Promoting equal access to education and training;

• Promoting equal access to healthcare and health services;

• Combating violence against women;

• Promote equal access to all forms of productive activity and resources within economic structures and policies;

• Encourage power-sharing and decision-making.
