Haiti - Travel : Flights to Port-au-Prince, Haitian Diaspora Issues

On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Kathia Verdier, Minister of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE), and Yves Ducarmel François, Director General of the National Airport Authority (AAN), discussed the travel challenges faced by Haitians in the diaspora during a working session.

One of the main concerns raised was the lack of commercial flights between Port-au-Prince Airport and certain high-demand countries such as Brazil, Chile, Suriname, etc... Director François confirmed that flights are still operating between Port-au-Prince and these countries to allow our compatriots in the diaspora to return home whenever they wish. Discussions regarding the resumption of flights from other countries to Port-au-Prince are ongoing.

Minister Verdier took the opportunity to discuss improvements to the reception service at Toussaint Louverture Airport. Furthermore, the MHAVE is working on renovating its current reception lounge and another lounge, which is expected to open soon at Cap-Haitien International Airport. The Minister reiterated her commitment to continuing to improve the services offered to our compatriots who do not live in the country on a daily basis, which should further strengthen the integration process, one of the main missions of her Ministry.
