Haiti - Technology : 8 free training centers to reduce the digital divide in Haiti

Ketleen Florestal, Minister of Planning and External Cooperation (MPCE), co-signed with Josselin Val, Rector of the University of Technology of Haiti (UNITECH), a large-scale, free digital training pilot program in several municipalities in the Northeast, Northwest, and South departments, as well as other underserved regions, aimed at giving young people from rural and urban areas an equal opportunity to pursue digital careers.

"Our ambition is clear : to make digital technology a lever for inclusive and equitable development," declared the Minister of the MPCE, emphasizing the importance of this pilot project, which could serve as a model for the entire country.

The program provides for the opening of eight Territorial Digital Training Centers with Haitian and foreign teachers who will provide their services in a hybrid format (in-person and virtual).

Young people will benefit from five programs leading to certification in the following areas: Basic Computer Science, Web Design, Python Application Development, Applied Artificial Intelligence, and Web Management.

Each commune with a Center will be able to welcome 100 qualified young people, trained to meet the growing digital needs of the job market. Particular attention will be paid to the inclusion of young women, who are too often excluded from these professional opportunities.

Beyond skills, the program aims to create a new dynamic : reducing the digital divide, encouraging local entrepreneurship, and fostering a generation capable of driving the country's digital transformation. This initiative is not just a training project, but an essential step towards a future where every citizen, wherever they live, will have access to digital tools.

"By equipping young people with these skills, we are preparing Haiti to fully enter the global digital economy," concluded Minister Florestal after the signing ceremony.
