Chief "Gran Black" Killed On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, "Gran Black" as he is known, leader of the "Ti bwa dòm" gang, was reportedly fatally wounded Tuesday by police during an operation in Gros-Morne, in the Artibonite department, according to Hubert Cénéac, acting mayor of the commune. Death of Wilford Ferdinand, Official Version: Vladimir Paraison, the acting Director General of the Haitian National Police, released the official version of the death of former Raboteau rebel leader Wilford Ferdinand, alias "Ti Will". He reportedly died during an exchange of fire with police officers executing a warrant in Canal Bois, Gonaïves. Demonstration in Saint-Michel de l'Attalaye On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, highly motivated demonstrators blocked the national road connecting to the North and closed access to the town hall. They criticized municipal authorities for their inability to address urgent problems and accused Gueillant Dorcinvil, the acting mayor who has been in office for over ten years as head of the Municipal Council of the commune of Saint-Michel de l'Attalaye, of administering the commune from the United States. The protesters intend to maintain the pressure until the municipal administration is replaced by a new team. To learn more about U.S.-funded opportunities, please visit : https://ht.usembassy.gov/education/ Adonis Ravine Correction Work This week, the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES-Sud) launched work on the Adonis Ravine correction project in the commune of Arniquet (Southern Department) to reduce and/or eliminate flooding in the area. This project, which gives renewed hope to the region's residents, covers a length of 750 linear meters and should ultimately allow for the construction of a 6-meter-wide, 1.2-meter-high drystone weir. This project will provide employment for 84 heads of household, most of whom are women. Port-de-Paix : Illegal Occupation The Port-de-Paix City Hall informs the public that individuals posing as agents of the Protected Areas Security Brigade (BSAP) are illegally occupying the premises on the Place d'Armes. The City Hall reminds the public that this space is municipal property, reserved exclusively for municipal use. Any unauthorized occupation constitutes a violation of public property. Consequently, these individuals are ordered to immediately vacate the premises and return the premises to the Municipal Administration.
