A Police Officer Murderer ? On Friday, January 2nd, 2026, the Haitian National Police (PNH) formally identified the suspected perpetrator of the double murder that occurred in Delmas 40A on the afternoon of January 1st, 2026. He is Officer Nelson Prud’homme, a member of the 25th graduating class. Legal proceedings are underway to ensure his arrest. The PNH reaffirms its commitment to fighting impunity within the institution and will spare no effort to find the officer and bring him to justice. "A Sacred Debt to Our Ancestors" Says the Prime Minister On the occasion of Ancestors' Day, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé stated, "Honoring the memory of our ancestors means recognizing the sacred debt we owe to those who gave birth to our freedom and our Nation. Their struggle compels us to unity, dignity, and an unwavering commitment to serving Haiti." https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46553-haiti-ancestorsday-the-nation-bows-before-the-memory-of-its-founding-heroes-video.html The Minister of Defense pays tribute to the Ancestors "Paying tribute, on this Friday, January 2nd, 2026, to our valiant ancestors who shed their blood and gave their lives to break the chains of slavery and give us this homeland, the first Black Republic in the world, gives me chills, and I feel deeply honored to do so alongside these great patriots. Every time I think of the heavy human cost on our side during the Battle of Vertières, I am horrified and saddened. Capois and all the brave men and women of our indigenous army knew that many of them would fall, but they charged anyway and won. The most courageous people who have ever walked this earth. I am eternally grateful to them," Jean-Michel Moïse, Minister of Defense. Message from former Deputy Jerry Tardieu Former Deputy Jerry Tardieu addressed a New Year’s message to the Nation : "I send you a message of courage, perseverance, and hope at the dawn of a year of challenges and major decisions for Haiti." In this politically charged text, he paints a stark picture of the country’s situation and identifies three challenges Haiti will face in 2026 : "Governance after February 7, security, and the organization of elections." End-of-year remarks from Laurent Lamothe "We close this year with an essential value : the optimism. 2025 tested us, shaped us, and forced us to grow, but it did not break us. We approach 2026 with this certainty : it can only be better. Better, because we have learned. Better, because we have stood tall. Better, because courage is part of our identity. May 2026 reward resilience, clarity, and boldness. May it bring momentum where patience was needed and results where there has been effort. Let's restore confidence, move forward, and build the future with assurance and determination. Welcome to 2026. Here we go. Welcome 2026. Let's go," Former Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe. Spain : Wishes from the Embassy of Haiti The Embassy of Haiti in Spain extends its sincerest wishes for peace, health, and prosperity to the entire Haitian community, as well as to its institutional and diplomatic partners and friends of Haiti. The Embassy reaffirms its commitment to working towards a future based on solidarity, cooperation, and sustainable development.
