TPS Supreme Court : Decision Pending

The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to announce its next decisions next week, while several major cases remain pending, including the legality of the international tariffs imposed by Donald Trump. The Court indicated on its website on Friday, January 9, 2026, that it could issue decisions in the cases argued at the hearing scheduled for Wednesday, January 14, 2026, specifying that the Court does not announce in advance which cases will be heard.

Cap-Haitien Boulevard : Large-Scale Demolition Operation The authorities of the city of Cap-Haitien, including the departmental delegate for the North, Marc M. Présumé, and the president of the municipal commission, Angeline Bell, have launched a large-scale operation to demolish unauthorized constructions on Cap-Haitien Boulevard. Several structures erected on sidewalks, including kiosks, were destroyed, provoking anger among some business owners.

Fears of Fuel Shortages

Long lines were observed outside several gas stations in the capital. Fearing a potential fuel shortage, particularly in Delmas and Pétion-Ville, many motorists rushed to distribution points, partially paralyzing traffic on several roads.

January 12, 2020 Earthquake : Measures to be observed

Marie E. Régine Joseph Haddad, Secretary General of the Presidency, reminds the public that by decree dated December 18, 2024, January 12 is declared "Day of Remembrance for Victims of Natural Disasters". Consequently, on Monday, January 12, 2026, marking the 16th anniversary of the earthquake that devastated the country :

• The national flag will be flown at half-mast throughout the country;

• Nightclubs and similar establishments will remain closed;

• Radio and television stations are encouraged to broadcast commemorative programs throughout the day.

For its part, the Port-au-Prince City Hall announces that no carnival activities will be permitted in the city of Port-au-Prince on Sunday, January 11, 2026. The City Hall urges all groups, organizers, DJs, parades, floats, and other carnival participants to strictly adhere to this measure. Any violator will be subject to the penalties stipulated by applicable laws and regulations.

Cap-Haitien : Leslie Voltaire Discusses Sanitation

Leslie Voltaire, Presidential Transition Advisor, held a working session with Angie Bell, Mayor of Cap-Haïtien, and Sem Calixte, Divisional Commissioner of the North Department.
