Haiti mired in a long-term multi-sectoral crisis Economist Harry Salomon, Deputy Director General of the Haitian Institute of Statistics and Informatics (IHSI), stated on a radio station in the capital that the Haitian economy has experienced seven consecutive years of contraction, referring to a long-term multi-sectoral crisis. A projected 16.1% decrease in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) between 2019 and 2025, representing approximately 106 billion gourdes in constant value. Double Gold Medal for Barbancourt Barbancourt has been awarded two gold medals at the Best Aged Rum Awards 2026, organized by The Fifty Best. The award went to Réserve du Domaine 15-year-old and Barbancourt 5 Étoiles 8-year-old. This is a significant international recognition for Barbancourt and for Haiti. 26th International Mother Language Day On the occasion of the 26th International Mother Language Day, the National Book Directorate (DNL) hosted the Haitian Creole Academy (AKA). Several prominent figures from the government and civil society participated in this event. As part of their collaboration, the DNL and AKA are committed to supporting authors to increase the production and publication of books in Creole and have agreed to promote Creole literature.
