Actions for the restoration of security in Haiti

The 6th Sectoral Security Roundtable (TSS) conference, organized with the support of the United Nations and the Center for Analysis and Research in Human Rights (CARDH), was held this week at the Karibe Hotel. The theme was "State of Security in Haiti and Establishment of the Anti-Gang Force."

Serge Gabriel Collin, the Minister of Economy and Finance, highlighted the detrimental impacts of insecurity on the economy and society, including poor economic performance, worsening food insecurity affecting 5.7 million people, and a high number of internally displaced persons estimated at over 1.4 million.

He took the opportunity to demonstrate how the Ministry, through its internal and decentralized structures, contributes to stabilization and security in Haiti through direct and indirect actions, including :

• Combating illicit trafficking, particularly narcotics, as well as firearms and ammunition that directly supply armed groups;

• Controlling borders, ports, and airports;

• Intensifying the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism;

• Mobilizing economic, budgetary, and social levers, such as supporting entrepreneurship, wealth creation and improved redistribution, budgetary allocations to finance law enforcement operations and ensure the continuity of security operations, and strengthening social protection programs, particularly by reducing inequalities and preventing upstream factors of instability.

For his part, Mr. Axel Joseph, Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister, reiterated the Government's commitment to restoring security.

Furthermore, the representative of the Organization of American States (OAS) advocated for a coordinated and sustainable approach focused on strengthening national capacities.

Following the sectoral roundtable, participants emphasized the need for concerted action to restore stability and strengthen institutions.
