The Northwest Departmental Directorate (DDNO) of the Ministry of the Environment, in collaboration with the Directorate of Integrated Coastal and Marine Zone Management and with financial support from the Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA+) program, completed two days of training and awareness-raising on the sustainable management of coastal and marine zones, as well as two days of planting in the mangrove at Haut-Fourneau, in the municipality of Port-de-Paix, on Thursday, April 2nd.

The objective of these four days of activities was to strengthen coastal ecosystems in the face of climate change.

It was Agronomist Noëlle Luckner, Departmental Director for the Northwest, who launched these activities for the benefit of local organization leaders, community leaders, fishing associations, youth clubs, women's groups, teachers, schoolchildren, and others.

During these activities, approximately 40 people were trained and empowered to better address the environmental problems in their communities and contribute to improved management of coastal and marine areas.

At least 1,000 mangrove seedlings were planted during these activities to restore degraded areas of the mangrove and help mitigate the negative impacts of climate change.

The Haut-Fourneau mangrove, located in the 6th section of Paulin-Lacorne in the municipality of Port-de-Paix, represents an ecosystem of great ecological value that offers significant potential for the development of ecotourism. This ecosystem covers an area of ​​270 hectares, including 100 hectares of mangrove forests of various species and 170 hectares of brackish pond.
