Distribution of 10,000 food kits in the Southern Department of Haiti

During the Easter holidays, the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES) conducted a mission to distribute 10,000 food kits in the South Department.

Jean Sadrack Jean François, Director of the Directorate for the Fight Against Poverty (DLCP), chaired a coordination meeting at the Departmental Emergency Operations Center (COUD) in Fonfrède. This meeting aimed to ensure better organization of field operations.

Several authorities participated, including Kesner Romilus, Director General of FAES; Mr. Lincosld Charles, Departmental Delegate for the South; Pierre-Marie Boutin, Regional Coordinator of FAES; Abner Jean-Charles, Regional Coordinator of the Directorate General of Civil Protection (DGPC); and Yacinthe Germain, Regional Coordinator of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST).

This mission, deployed from April 2nd to 6th, is part of the Multisectoral Emergency Program, implemented by MAST and led by FAES, which aims to strengthen the fight against food insecurity affecting vulnerable populations.

Furthermore, the delegation visited the Southern Rehabilitation Center, located in Madame Combe, which will soon house nearly 2,000 vulnerable people. This visit allowed for an assessment of the needs for the establishment of a community restaurant, scheduled to open on April 6th.

In parallel, the Government, through the FAES (Fund for Economic and Social Assistance), continues its social assistance efforts by providing 48,000 meals daily to displaced persons, distributed as follows: Artibonite: 2,000; Centre: 9,000; and West: 37,000. In addition, 36,000 meals are served daily through mobile canteens in Port-au-Prince, Delmas, and Pétion-ville.
