223rd Toussaint Louverture

Embassy of Haiti in Paris :

On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, the Ambassador of Haiti to France, Louino Volcy, paid solemn tribute to Toussaint Louverture during a wreath-laying ceremony under the dome of the Panthéon. On this 223rd anniversary of his death, staff from the Embassy and Consulate General of Haiti in Paris, prominent members of the Haitian community in France, and French citizens gathered in the crypt of the Panthéon to celebrate the memory of the man described as a "modern-day Spartacus" and the "initiator of humanity's only successful slave revolution." In his address, the Ambassador recalled the unwavering determination of this pioneer who declared: "I was born a slave, but nature gave me the soul of a free man."

Cap-Haitien :

Angeline Bell, Mayor of Cap-Haitien accompanied by deputy mayors and several representatives of local authorities, laid a wreath at the foot of the monument dedicated to Toussaint Louverture, hero of the fight against slavery and pioneer of the emancipation of the Haitian people. The ceremony took place in Place Bréda, in Haut-du-Cap, in the presence of hundreds of students from the Toussaint Louverture High School, who came to participate in this moment of remembrance and legacy.

Kenscoff : Attack leaves at least 1 dead

At least one person was killed in a new attack perpetrated by armed individuals in Kenscoff, on the night of Sunday, April 6, municipal authorities confirmed.

One-Year-Old Child Kidnapped

The Haitian National Police (PNH), through its Anti-Kidnapping Unit (CCE) of the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ) and the Directorate of General Intelligence (DRG), secured the release of a one-year-old child who had been kidnapped by her nanny. Alerted following a complaint from the parents, the CCE immediately launched an operation that led to the suspect being located in the Damien/Bon Repos area. On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, the nanny abandoned the child and fled to the town of Trou Sable. The child was recovered safe and sound. The suspect is actively being sought.

PNH Deployed on Offensive Mode

On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Vladimir Paraison, Acting Commander-in-Chief of the Haitian National Police (PNH), declared on a radio station in the capital that the PNH's specialized units are now deployed on the offensive. He emphasized that their complex methods of operation and the complicity of some members of the population with these armed individuals constitute a serious obstacle during police operations.

Jean-Denis and Pont Benoît : More than 13,500 people displaced

An updated report from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) indicates that at least 13,573 people, or approximately 3,342 families, have been displaced since March 28, 2026, due to armed attacks in Jean-Denis and Pont Benoît, in the Artibonite department. Initially concentrated in these localities, the violence then spread to several neighboring areas, notably the communes of Petite Rivière de l’Artibonite and Marchand Dessalines.

Saint-Louis du Sud : Drug Trafficker Arrested The Haitian National Police (PNH), through the Anti-Narcotics Bureau (BLTS) in Les Cayes, in collaboration with the Coast Guard, conducted a joint operation in the locality of La Saline, in the commune of Saint-Louis du Sud. This intervention, based on intelligence, led to the arrest of Maxon Pétion, alias “Jean Marc” for his involvement in illicit drug trafficking. During a search of the suspect’s home, they discovered and seized a suitcase containing 4.386 kg of cocaine.
