The CEP warns of significant impacts on the election schedule in Haiti

On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) reminded the general public, and political actors in particular, of the publication on March 24, 2026, of a Ministerial Order amending Article 3 of the Order of September 18, 2024, appointing the members of the Provisional Electoral Council and setting their terms of office. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-47147-zapping-haiti-of-march-25-2026.html

This new Order instructs the CEP to "take all necessary measures, within its purview, for the implementation of the provisions of Articles 12 and 14 of the National Pact for Stability and the Organization of Elections."

As part of the implementation of this Decree, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) is currently working on harmonizing the Electoral Decree of December 1sr, 2025, with the provisions of Articles 12 and 14 of the Pact. "This process significantly impacts the electoral calendar," the CEP emphasizes. To this end, the Council announces the postponement of voter registration and candidate registration, initially scheduled for April 1st and 13, 2026, respectively. New dates for these operations will be announced shortly.

The CEP reaffirms its commitment to conducting the electoral process in strict compliance with its institutional independence and democratic norms, in an inclusive, impartial, and transparent manner.
