Les Cayes, the PM reaffirms the State's commitment to access to drinking water

On an official tour of the Grand South region, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé conducted an inspection of the drinking water supply system in the city of Les Cayes on Tuesday, April 7.

This visit was part of his participation in the signing ceremony for the contracts for the construction and supervision of stormwater management infrastructure in Les Cayes, a key step in strengthening urban resilience to climate risks.

On site, Fils-Aimé was able to observe the progress of the installations and speak with technical staff about the challenges related to sustainable access to drinking water. Through this visit, he reaffirmed the priority given by the Haitian government to the development of basic services, particularly in the regions.

The system visited is part of the Water and Sanitation Infrastructure and Development Program in Haiti, implemented by the National Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA), with financial support from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) through the Water and Sanitation Cooperation Fund (FCAS).

With a total budget of over US$101 million, this ambitious program aims to expand access to drinking water and sanitation services while strengthening the sector's institutional capacity.

By the end of December 2025, more than 80% of the funds had already been committed, demonstrating the significant progress of interventions nationwide.

Beyond Les Cayes, these investments encompass several cities across the country, with the goal of sustainably improving the living conditions of thousands of citizens, both in urban and rural areas.

Continuing this momentum, a delegation led by Mr. Charles Jean-Jacques, National Authorizing Officer for the European Development Funds (EDF), visited Jérémie to assess the Drinking Water Supply System, currently being finalized, which will benefit more than 40,000 residents.
