Gangs now control only 72% of the metropolitan area

As part of operations to regain control of occupied areas, the Haitian National Police (PNH), with the support of the Task Force, launched an attack that resulted in the complete recapture of the Faculty of Humanities and UNITEC. The Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd'H) are tasked with consolidating the premises to ensure lasting security. Furthermore, the PNH has succeeded in regaining control of the National Commission for Public Procurement offices located at the corner of Avenue Christophe and Rue 6 (former offices of the Superior Court of Auditors). The FAd'H, the Departmental Unit for Maintaining Order (UDMO), and the Departmental Operations and Intervention Brigade (BOID) are controlling and consolidating this area. The Haitian National Police (PNH) also managed to retake and secure the premises of the Institute of African Studies and Research of Haiti (IERAH), located at the intersection of Christophe Avenue and La Fleur du Chêne Street. According to Vladimir Paraison, Acting Director General of the PNH, the armed groups of the "Viv ansanm" terrorist coalition now control only 72% of the metropolitan area.

A kidnapper arrested

On Friday, April 10, 2026, officers from the Juvenile Protection Brigade arrested Ricardy Cajuste (39 years old) at the National Industrial Parks Company (SONAPI). This operation led to the release of a 15-year-old girl whom the individual had kidnapped and held captive for four days in a house in Village Solidarité.

GSF Deployment Approaches

Force Minister Raina Forbin met with Jack Christofides, the designated Special Representative of the French Gang Supression Force (GSF), and Godfrey Otunge, the Kenyan GSF Commander. Discussions focused on the progress of the Force's deployment, its operational strategy, coordination mechanisms with the relevant Haitian authorities, and the outlook for the coming months. Funding, logistics, and the legal framework of the mission, as well as ongoing diplomatic efforts to ensure the Force's full operationalization, were also addressed.

Three Haitian Taekwondo Athletes Qualify

Following the taekwondo qualification trials at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center on Thursday, April 9, for the Central American and Caribbean Games, the Haitian Taekwondo Federation announces the qualification of three taekwondo athletes (out of eight registered) : Ava Soon Lee, Jessica Lynn Lee, and Sean Jaylen Laloan for the 25th Central American and Caribbean Games 2026, which will take place from July 24 to August 8, 2026, in the Dominican Republic.

Acute Blood Supply Crisis

The health system in Haiti is facing an acute blood supply crisis, with estimated annual needs of between 60,000 and 80,000 units of blood, while collections are struggling to exceed 20,000 to 30,000 units.

Customs Revenue Increase

For the month of March 2026, Haitian customs collected 12,417,913,134 gourdes and 63 centimes, announced Reginald Sévère, Director of Legal Affairs for the General Customs Administration (AGD), on Thursday, April 9, 2026. This represents a year-over-year increase of 38.82%. Furthermore, agents from the AGD's Surveillance Directorate seized several items last month, including five drones, 15 communication radios, and 17 bulletproof vests, as well as various other products prohibited from being sold in the country.
