Qatar Pledges $30 Million for the GSF

On Thursday, April 23, 2026, the State of Qatar pledged a $30 million contribution to the United Nations Trust Fund for the newly established Gang Reppression Force (GRF) to help Haiti regain control of its territory from armed groups. This contribution strengthens a mission authorized to deploy up to 5,500 troops, as it transitions from a Kenyan-led initiative to a broader international coalition with an offensive mandate.

FAd’H at Heritage Sites ?

The Minister of Culture and Communication, Emmanuel Menard, accompanied by his counterpart from the Ministry of Defense, Mario Andrésol, and the Acting Director General of the Ministry of Culture, Stéphanie St. Louis, conducted an inspection visit to Forts Jacques and Alexandre. Discussions are underway regarding the creation of an honor guard and heritage protection brigade for the deployment of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd'H) at these heritage sites, formerly military camps.

82.93% of detainees in Haiti have never been tried or convicted

As of April 8, 2026, Haitian prisons held 7,551 detainees, including 436 women and 261 minors, of whom 82.93% have never been tried or convicted and are being held in pretrial detention, according to a new UN report.

Prime Minister Fils-Aimé met with Representative Brian Mast (R), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Discussions focused on major issues related to the security situation in Haiti, including the deployment of the Gang Repression Force (FRG), as well as ongoing efforts to restore stability throughout the country.

Gang Warfare Forces the Displacement of 5,000 People

In the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reports that armed clashes around the communes of Cité Soleil and Croix-des-Bouquets have displaced more than 5,000 people since April 18, 2026. Slightly more than half of them have found refuge with host families, while the others have sought shelter in camps. This violence has led to the closure of schools and the suspension of public transportation. Nearly 3,000 people had already been displaced from these same neighborhoods last month.
