Project for 1,000 housing units in northern Haiti

On Saturday, April 26, 2026, in Ouanaminthe, Marc-Elie Nelson, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST), laid the foundation stone for the construction of the regional office of the Public Enterprise for the Promotion of Social Housing (EPPLS) for the Far North region.

During the ceremony, Minister Nelson took the opportunity to address families, workers, and laborers in the Far North to reassure them of the Government's firm support through targeted subsidies. He stated that 7.405 billion gourdes had already been allocated to support the most vulnerable and strengthen social protection, as well as the allocation of direct financial assistance of 5,000 gourdes per worker to textile sector employees, granted by the Fund for Economic and Social Support (FAES).

For his part, Rony Charles, the Director General of EPPLS, welcomed these strategic measures taken by the Government for social protection and requested the population's cooperation for better management of the villages and social housing made available to them. To this end, a Supervisory Commission composed of nine young professional trainees was created with the mission of monitoring infrastructure management and maintaining cleanliness standards. Letters of commitment were officially presented to these young people.

Furthermore, Nelson announced the construction of a thousand housing units in the great north. This initiative aims to address the critical shortage in this sector. These 1,000 housing units will be financed by international organizations and intended for low-income households.

On an official visit to the north of the country since April 24, the Minister of Social Affairs plans to travel to the great south starting next week, with the goal of providing concrete government assistance to the most vulnerable families.
