In New York, Minister Forbin highlights Haiti's migration reforms.

Raina Forbin, Minister of Foreign Affairs, is participating in the 2nd International Migration Review Forum, organized under the auspices of the United Nations (May 5-8, 2026) at UN Headquarters in New York. The Minister is accompanied by Marc-Elie Nelson, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor.

In her various remarks, Minister Forbin reiterated that the Haitian government is giving sustained attention to the issue of migration, which it considers a national priority. She also highlighted the reforms undertaken by the government, particularly regarding citizen documentation and identification, as well as efforts to improve the management of migration flows, strengthen border security, and combat criminal networks.

In this context, she called for increased support from the international community to assist Haiti's efforts to restore security, particularly through the full deployment of the Gang Supression Force (GSF), in order to create the conditions necessary for stability and the organization of credible elections. She also called for an intensification of the fight against transnational criminal networks, the smuggling of migrants, and human trafficking that exploit the vulnerability of Haitian citizens.

"Our ambition is clear : to ensure that every Haitian is protected and respected, wherever they may be, and to create the conditions so that migration is a choice, not a necessity."

The Chancellor also emphasized the need for the treatment of migrants upon their return to their country of origin to be carried out with transparency, dignity, and, above all, respect for their fundamental rights.
