Kreyol Jazz Connexion

The Haiti Jazz Foundation has taken a decisive step in promoting Kreyol Jazz with the official launch of the "Kreyol Jazz Connexion movement : a bilingual manifesto signed by more than seventy artists and music professionals from Haiti, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Reunion Island, Cape Verde, Saint Lucia, the United States, Canada and France. Jazz has always spoken Creole. Far from being a simple marketing label, Kreyol Jazz affirms a long-hidden historical truth: jazz is, at its origin, Creole music. Tutelary figures like Jelly Roll Morton, Sidney Bechet and Louis Armstrong carried Creole roots within them. The movement today proposes to return to the sources while enriching them with living heritages (gwoka, bèlè, maloya, vodou, rara) to build a visible, exportable and rooted genre.
