Haiti - Environment : 21 Polaris Ranger for the Environmental Monitoring Body (CSE)

The President Michel Martelly, proceeded, Wednesday, July 25, at the National Palace, to the delivery of 21 all-terrain vehicles (ATV) Polaris Ranger, worth 380.000 dollars, to the Environmental Monitoring Body (CSE).

The ceremony took place in presence of members of the Government, the Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations, representatives of the diplomatic corps, international organizations, Parliamentarians and actors working in the environmental field.

Dieunord Joseph, spokesperson of the beneficiaries, thanked, on behalf of the CSE, the Head of State for his involvement alongside this entity and said that he relies on his support for the strengthening of body in its actions in favor of environmental protection.

Ronald Toussaint Joseph, the Environment Minister, has shown its commitment to work towards the improvement of the environmental system of Haiti and gave assurances of an efficient use of these vehicles. He also took the opportunity to present some achievements of his Ministry and promised to the President to work more to stay on the path of progress.

For his part, the Head of State thanked the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB), for funding the purchase of such equipment, that will enable the Government to restore the environmental health of the country, condemning the laxity and carelessness of previous regimes, in environmental policy. "On the environmental point of view, our country is sick, very sick and we are condemned to restore its health..." declared the President Martelly, who distributed 50 flashlights and uniforms to the CSE.

The Head of State who made of the environment, one of the priority axes of its ​​governance, believes that the CSE will help prevent the country from falling below the threshold of 3% of vegetation cover "...One can only feel a shock when, flying over our country, we have under our eyes the spectacle of 'denuded' hills, offering to the eyes, that their carcases of stone," deplored the Head of State who reiterated his willingness to make every effort to ensure that the environmental situation changes positively, and that the country regains its former glory.
