Haiti - Environment : Visit of Minister Thomas Jacques in Rivière Grise

Friday, the Agricultural Engineer Thomas Jacques, Minister of Agriculture, accompanied by Agricultural Engineer Arnoux Severin, Departmental Director of the West visited the clearing works and gabionade in the Rivière Grise, in order to see the progress of the work.

These works carried out in Rivière Grise, at a cost of 62 million gourdes from the coffers of the State, on a distance of 6.30 km, will go from the bridge of Tabarre through the bridge of Croix-des-Missions to finish on the brdge of Duvivier located in the town of Cité Soleil and will last 3 months.

The Minister of Agriculture said found that work are proceeding normally and recalled that the Administration Martelly-Lamaothe took the initiative to clean out the Rivière Grise after the passage of Sandy, which caused a lot of damage and left considerable damage to the river.

Thomas Jacques confirmed that he had received assurances of firms running the project, that the work will be ready before the start of the hurricane season (June). The objective of this work is to reduce the risk on the Rivière Grise, during the rainy season, in order to protect the lives and property of the inhabitants of the area.

For his part, Arnoux Severin explained the importance of this work for the well-being of the population, indicating that the Rivière Grise has a watershed, covering an area of ​​38.900 hectares.
